Big Reasons Why Fruit Seeds Should Never be Discarded Again

Fruit seeds are harder than the meat for some obvious reason, i.e. cellular density. So, while we avoid the seed because of its hardness and extreme taste, it is time to know why such is the case.

One study found out that at least 70% of the antioxidant in an avocado is concentrated in its seed which should explain its extreme taste, and it is not exclusive to the fruit.

“The total antioxidant capacity and phenolic content of edible portions and seeds of avocado, jackfruit, longan, mango and tamarind were studied. In addition, the relationship between antioxidant activity, phenolic content and the different degrees of heating of mango seed kernel was investigated. The seeds showed a much higher antioxidant activity and phenolic content than the edible portions. The contribution of all the fruit seed fractions to the total antioxidant activity and phenolic content was always >70%. ABTS cation radical-scavenging and FRAP assays were employed for the determination of antioxidant activity; FCR assay was used to measure the total phenolic content.”

So, the next time you make yourself a glass of avocado smoothie, do sprinkle some avocado seed powder on it. One method of preparation is suggested below.

How to Produce Avocado Seed Powder

The best ways to use the avocado seed is in powdered form. For this powder you need only:

  • The washed avocado seed
  • A knife
  • Something that can be used for milling, e.g. an apple grater or grinder

Your process for turning the seed into versatile powder:

  1. Peel off seed’s outer skin;
  2. Cut into smaller portions possible with a knife, or put inside a zip-lock and with a clean heavy object, crush it into pieces ;
  3. Leave to dry, then;
  4. Mill in a coffee grinder, or any powerful grinder you might have.

Once you have cut the seed it reacts with ambient air and turns to dark orange colour. This is perfectly normal and actually desirable. The pieces need 1 to 3 days to dry out completely, so cutting thin slices is preferable in that it dries more quickly and mold doesn’t have time to form before grinding into powder.

However, it is also possible to grind the non-dried seed pieces directly. In this case, you should let the powder dry for a couple of hours before you use it.

To neutralize the strong taste without destroying its potency, try mixing it with other fruits that have a strong taste like berries, kale, spinach or pineapple to make it taste better.

Benefits of Avocado Seed Powder

Avocado seed has a great amount of potassium which helps regulate blood pressure. Avocado’s flesh also gives lutein that can control the oxidative and even inflammatory stress.

  1. Fights Cancer

Phenols are natural chemical compounds that can be found in so many kinds of plants, one of which is the avocado seed.

These beneficial seeds can actually contain four different classes of polyphenolic that includes proanthocyanidins flavonoids, flavanol glycosides, flavanol monomers, and hydroxycinnamic acids.

Scientists also discovered the existence of procyanidin A trimers, 3-O-caffeoylquinic acid, and 3-O-p-coumaroylquinic acid. These are all anticarcinogens that provide antioxidative compounds and is an amazing way to fight off liver disorders.

Avocadoes even have a small chance of curing myeloid leukemia in laboratory testing.

  1. Cardiovascular

The extracts from the avocado seeds are beneficial for patients who are suffering from cardiovascular disease.

The clinical tests that were performed explained a notable vasorelaxation response in aorta vessel walls. This is when the properties of the vessels are relaxed.

The seed extract reduces LDL cholesterol and doesn’t raise the amount of triglycerides or reduction of HDL cholesterol.

  1. Digestion

For many years it has been proven that fiber has an amazing impact on our digestive tract. The fruit itself has about 4.6 grams of fiber and the amount needed per day is about 6 to 8 grams.

The Malhotra College documented wound healing, analgesic, and anti-ulcer effects of avocado seed extract.

Eating the extract can boost the time it takes for a wound to heal and it can have effects to prevent the chance of stomach ulcers.

  1. Immunity Booster

The antioxidative polyphenols that were mentioned above are also great for boosting the immune system and have anti-inflammatory properties.

The anti-inflammatory actions can treat different kinds of arthritis. The avocado seed extract has an extremely powerful antibiotic, antimicrobial, anti-fungal and also antiviral compounds that lead to raising the immune system level.

  1. Wrinkles

Oxidative stress causes the skin to age aggressively; the seed of the avocado is an effective way to stop the wrinkles from forming.

These antioxidative polyphenols have demonstrated the ability to significantly decrease the UV-induced skin inflammation and induce apoptosis in tumor cells to effectively prevent UV-related cancer.
The oils that the avocado seed contains incredibly increases collagen formation, and an even greater collagen enhance was discovered from eating just the fruit itself.

Any nutrients that we take are absorbed into the cells more readily if we do some regular workouts, e.g. even brisk walking will do the job, and take adequate rest for cellular regeneration.

So, who needs Big Pharma?

With high water intake, i.e. 3.3 liters for ladies and 3.7 liters for gentlemen, this simple routine should retard symptoms of “aging”.

Just remember, most fruit seeds are beneficial. So, don’t throw them all away from hereon. Cheers!
